The torque on the pinion nut can be any amount. Why you should take a torque 
reading before you take the nut off is to reset the drag force between the 
pinion bearings. You will need to use a new crush spacer when you remove the 
nut. But the nut can be reused with some loctite.

I believe mine is up to 750 ft/lbs. and it still took a while. Try 
penetrating fliud like PB blaster or Liquid Wrench.  It is in a bad position 
so a long breaker bar will not work to well unless the exhaust is removed.
