Oops! Apologies to Bill Sohl. I just reread your post on changing
wire wheel AND HUB front-to-rear. I originally thought you were
merely changing the wheel in an effort to match a worn hub to a fresh
wheel and vice versa. I don't know, maybe that would work. I see
now that your suggestion is to remove the HUB from the front and
install it on the rear. This is apparently possible with a TR. The
reason I missed this is that on a Spridget, the wire-wheel splined hub
in the rear is all of a piece with the halfshaft and cannot be removed
and placed on the front or vice versa. I don't know about on a big
Healy. Sorry about my itchy trigger finger! In any case the trick is
to keep the caps on tight so the tapers on hub and cap take the
strain and not the spline. John Twist says that you cannot hit them
too hard of too often. He also has published minimun acceptable
outside diameters for spline wear in "The Octagon", journal of the
AMGBA.
