On my Scimitar, when I am in overdrive top gear, the speedo and the
tach are in the same relative position up to about 70 mph, then
the tach moves up faster. The gearing is such 27 mph/1000 revs, and
I usually drive by the tach, because I know that 2000 revs I am around
the legal speed limit, because the top of the speedo is slighlty
obscured by the steering wheel.

About 2 months ago I was stopped by the police for doing "around 65 miles
an hour" (a direct quote) yet I never went over 2000 revs. When I
questioned hm about the speed, he looked at my papers and let me go.
In retrospect I think he just stopped me for DWI - it was Saturday
night at about 1am !!.
