Yes folks, it's true. You've suffered long enough, through stories
of construction, disease in the swamps, and other atrocities.
A brief recap:
May, 1988 - -Resurrection of a 1941 International T6 bulldozer, which had
lain in a field for 8 years, water in the cylinders, and
                well siezed engine.
June - -Begin clearing the future site.
July - -A brief interlude of acutal British car-ism, with the
attempted activation of the '64 Sprite, only to lose out
to a bad crankshaft and bearings.
September - -Better reality, with the discovery of a 1934 MG PA, sitting
in a nearby barn, waiting for someone to put it in a proper
state. (After getting it home & running, working through
various systems, to discover that the valve timing was off
                by at least 30 degrees!)
10/88 & 4/89 -Many hours on the T6, and my '39 Ford 9N, moving dirt &
rock, and grading. [purchase of 4 ton lift at auction :-) ]
5/89 -Construction of Pole Barn Shell- Takes 3 workers 3 days!
6/89 -Back to work again- drains, install lift, arrival of
new apprentice grease monkey. [at age 8 1/2 months, she's now
about ready to start learning how to rebuild an engine. ;-) ]
8/89 -The floor is poured
9/89 -First Sports car in, and up on the lift. '64 Datsun Fairlady
made roadworthy, and makes it to Watkins Glen for the Parade
Lap @ the Serringetti Vintage Race Weekend.
10/89-2/90 -Installation of doors, wall studding, electric service,
insulation, ceiling, walls, etc. Toolbox moved from the old
                barn.
3/8/90 -First British car inside new shop! That's right, last night,
Bridget, Tilly's '71 MGB GT, was pulled from her 5 yr.
resting place in the Olde Barn, by the "yard tug", a
'70 Cub Cadet. (hydrostatic transmissions are great for slow,
tight manuvering.) She was ushered to the hose to remove
the worst of the dust, and then made her way into the new
shop, her BRG paint shining in the last rays of the setting
sun. At long last, a warm, dry, flat, place to work. (Hey,
I've spent plenty of time in mud, gravel, snow, wind, etc.
                And will again, I'm sure.)
3/10/90 -First scheduled engine removal party. There's a good bit of
work to do. Bearings, at the very least. One previously leaky
brake cylinder. (Here's where I get a chance to see the real
results of using silicone brake fluid. I expect to see very
little change or corrosion in the system. If I had used
standard brake fluid, I would expect to find seized brake
pistons, corroded cylinders, and funky seals. We shall see...
Time to get to work, the East-coast GOF @ the Outback IV
                is comming soon!
