TR7 Problems

Hello,

Now that good weather is threatening to break out in New England, I've
been working on the TR7 to get it ready for the spring. I also now
have a completed garage to work in; however, the garage work was not
kind to the TR7.

When we got to the point of sealing the garage in, my contractor
sub-contracted the sheetrock work to the idiots of the world. I said
that I would move the 7 out of the way while they were working in
there, but no, they showed up when I didn't expect them, and rolled
the car back and forth... have you ever wondered what the pointy rear
bumper overrides on a TR7 are good for? For putting through a new
sheetrock wall - they pushed the car through the wall :-o For encores,
they smeared joint compound on the body, and used the bonnet as
staging to reach the ceiling (I found footprints on the bonnet and the
TOP of the windscreen, the hood being down - needless to say, I was
bullsh*t). The good news was that the contractor fired these guys, and
will make good on any damage I find on the car... Amazingly enough, I
haven't found anything out of sorts - only the Triumph laurel on the
bonnet was damaged (BIG :-).

Now, I have two questions for the group:

o Two of my wheels lose air at a rapid rate. I pulled the tyre off one
of the wheels and
found a crack :-( These are not the std wheels for the car, but were probably
put on by
the dealer. They are marked as BWA 105; they are brushed aluminum with four
spokes in a
cross pattern, and a BL logo in the centre. The size is 6JJx13. I saw another
pair once
on a picture of a Scimitar that someone was restoring. If anyone knows where
I could get
a couple of these, let me know, else I'll have to find a set of TR8-style
wheels...

o The second problem concerns the carburettors. The car is a dual carb version
with
automatic chokes. The problem is that once the engine reaches normal
temperature, the idle
speed goes up to around 2500 rpm. I've checked all the obvious things -
anyone have any
  ideas what I've overlooked?

A recent posting about driving in England, and the M4 in particular, reminds me
of when I
was over there last August. I had a Vauxhall Astra (looks like a Pontiac
LeMans, but much
faster and better handling), and was working in Bristol. On my last day, I paid
a visit to
some new-found friends that were para-sailing in Clifton Downs. I stayed too
long there, and
had to drive rather quickly to get to Heathrow (and I hate to drive fast, of
course :-). I
was "doing the ton" over most of the M4 from Bristol to Heathrow, and made the
trip from
Clifton Downs to Heathrow in under 2 hours! Obviously, I was on the road at an
empty time
over a weekend... but it was the same level of fun that I've had driving the
Autobahn...
