Some good advice has gone by regarding the "best" way to put a wrench
on a nut. This is, I guess, for "high torque, unobstructed access"
applications. The bit about "high torque" is certainly a common event
what with rusted nuts and the like, but unobstructed access sounds like
a wet dream (or a VW Beetle). A neat thing about an adjustable or open
ended wrench is the angle offset, which allows you to use it as if it were
a 12 point wrench by turning it around each throw. This lets you get the
nut off if you only have 30 degrees of wrench motion available (sometimes
less by not putting it on square).
