I always thought that the Dolomite used the same engine as the TR7,
ie the 1750cc (in the UK) alloy head, OHC engine. I do not know if 
the 1500cc engine was a smaller version of this same engine, or if it
is the Spitfire OHV 1500 engine.

As far as I know all 1500 Spitfires use the same engine, except of course
for the different emmissions requirements. But the block/head should
be the same.

If you want to fit Twin SU's onto your Spitfire 1500, why not get the 
proper manifiold anyway. You can pick them up almost anywhere in the UK.
(And they are cheaper than trying to find it in the US). When I  was
looking for one, TS Imports had them in stock, but I remember they were
somewhat pricey.
The place I last saw them was in a Triumph Tune catalogue. MG performance
shops also stock them.
