The TR6 overdrive works! It's installed and running happy! Wow what
a difference! The engine on the highway sings right along at 2500
rpms at approx 60mph. Now if TRF would get my speedo cable to me, I
would know exactly (well as exact as my smiths gauge) how fast I was
going! The wiring was a snap. Literally. All the connections were
already there and I just plugged those little bullet connectors in
place. How cool. I guess there was only one wiring harness for all
the TR6's eh?
Anyway, the trans does make a little more noise that I would like, but
it does "feel" quite solid. I'm considering running the fresh trans
oil (Castrol 80-90w) for about 1000 miles then putting in new Castrol
with the Slick50 manual trans stuff. Before you all jump all over me
about trying this, let me add my experience with with slick 50 ATF.
My '88 VW had a noisy bearing in the automatic transmission. So, I
added some slick50 ATF and about 1500 miles later, no more noise. It
REALLY did work. (Or the noise was something else that broke and then
no longer made the noise) I've run the car another 20,000 miles with
no probs.
Anyway, my only concern about adding the slick50 to the OD unit is
that it might be too slick for the clutch to engage in the OD. Does
this make sense? Any bad experiences? I'm tempted to try the Castrol
with the Slick50 over a synthetic trans oil. I dunno why actually.
Well, I *had* Mobil1 synthetic trans oil in my old trans. It' didn't
help. :-) Of course I don't think anything could help that old trans.
