The MGB's had 3-main engines thru 64. They had 3-syncro trannies thru '67.
And chrome bumpers thru '74 1/2. My preference if for '68-'72. These
had all syncro transmitions, safety re-enforced doors, side lights on
the fenders, strong pre smog engines (once sans AIR pump). The 68s had the
old grill while the later ones had the pre-crushed ones.

The ironic thing is that the later 18V smog pruf engines were the best
engineered. The engine was semi-redesigned and inproved. So get a
68-72 MGB and put hi compression pistons (8.0:1 or greater) a mild
street cam, a dual point distributor in a 18V engine. While the
'73 on 18V engine was best, the Lucas electronics were the worst.
The switches were cheepo plastic ones that work 23 times and then
fall apart.

Hope this helps.
