Greg sez:

My experiance with both the SU's on my '69 MGB and the
DGV on my '77 MGB have been:

    1) The SU's are fun to play with and you get _alot_ of opportunities
to have fun. About the time you get everything adjusted, synchronized
and generally sorted, it's time to start over. And this is with carbs
that are in good condition, ie: throttle shafts don't leak air, dampers
move smoothly, needles centered, linkage not binding, blah, blah, blah.

    2) The ZS is the biggest piece of smog kludged junk I've seen. It doesn't
even make a good paperweight, since the soot falls out of it all over
        the desk.

    3) The Weber is an absolute joy when it comes to reliability, consistent
behaviour and even gas mileage. Mine has the automatic choke which
I thought I would hate but I wouldn't even consider the manual choke
now. The car starts the first time every morning, no matter what the
weather (something I could never say about the SU's even when they
were properly tweeked). This carb makes good power, has very good
throttle response and I think that the design of the manifold makes
for good fuel atomization. This helps both the power and the mileage.
By the way, does anyone know why they call it "mileage" in the Brit
mags instead of "kilometerage" or something suitably metric? The
downside is that you don't get to have much _fun_ ( see 1 above )
        with this carb

Anyway, I think I come down squarely on the side of the Pro Weber (DGV)
contingent. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this carb to anyone thinking
about trashing a ZS ( at least the ZS's which came on late MG's, don't know
anything about carbs for other models ). The increased driveability is well
worth the money.
