It is not. That piece is bolted into the car on both roadster and GT
versions of the MGB, and I have the medical records to prove it. :-)
(Short summary: if you do this, get the car as high as you can and take
regular breaks or you will strain the muscles in your shoulder, go into
shock, and have to take massive doses of ibuprofen while also not moving
your arm for a week.)

It bolts in. It just bolts in ugly. More specifically, there are bolts at
the side of the crossmember, which has a sort of seagull-wing shape in
the middle; the transmission actually bolts to the "shoulders" of the gull,
and the crossmember bolts to the pan at the outer ends of the crossmember.
At least it did on The Black Car (a '65) and on Andy's '70 BGT, from which
we removed the crossmember to use in my car.

M.G.s were made to be unbolted and bolted back together, with very little
actual cutting or welding required.

Do you not actually have a shop manual for this car, or is the net just
that much more fun? :-)

Probably not, but them I'm running a Monza exhaust which has a sweet,
if loud, note, especially with the high-compression motor and the long-0
period, high-lift cam. Mmmmmmmmmm.... 3000 RPM has a special sound to it.
