well, a friend and I just finished the annual overhaul of my 3
synchro mini-cooper race transaxle and we are halfway through the
first of two of his four synchro mini race boxes. If I can swing
another set of s/c gears, I will build up my spare 4 synchro as my
primary race box next winter.

One tip I should mention that we do on all race boxes, is to cross drill
and safety wire the little BSP bolts holding the shift forks to the shift
rods. It is quite inconvenient to have one loosen up during a race. and
they are a big hassle to get to with the power unit in the car.

I will not cause an outbreak of drowsiness at the keyboards by
detailing the rebuild, but I will mention that the Haynes manual is
pretty helpful...although it does not mention that you really need
two people for some of the steps and it presumes you have a supply
of shims and thrust washers for the laygear, main bearing, diff and
idler gear.

Happy to help out if someone is trying a mini gearbox rebuild...
