Kipping Triumph Spares...
I diddled with the Spit Mk.III. Discovered that the coil is, indeed,
generating a spark, and the points were not working properly. After diddling
with them for a while, I got a genuine spark out of a plug wire, and the
engine bucked a little as I turned it over. I put everything back together and
tried the key for real. After a few coughs it finally stayed running on its
own, very roughly. Then, after a a minute or two of warming up, it ran GREAT!
The little engine sounded very good. I mashed down on the clutch, put it in
first, and then - the clutch pedal stayed on the floor after I lifted my foot!
I put it in neutral and pulled the pedal up, then worked it up and down until
it came up on its own. As I pulled out, smoke began pouring out of the turn
signal switch (or was it the o/d switch?). Anyway, I turned everything off and
left, satisfied that this little car will be a lot of fun once I replace about
50% of it!
I begin disassembly this weekend, and then after some paint, I start putting
it all back together. I still plan on driving it before the summer's over!
Y'know, these small frame Triumphs are a lot of fun!
