Baking on enamel.

I've heard that you can make enamel paint last much longer by baking it 
on after it has dried.  I can vauguely remeber a magazine article that 
told how to do this in an electric oven. (After the paint had dried to 
avoid setting the vapors on fire.)  Is anybody familliar with this technique?
