The clutch release arm pivot pin seems to drop out on most Midgets and
Spitfires sooner or later. It's only held in by friction (to the release
arm - not to the bell housing) and once it slips, it drops straight out.
It is possible to replace while the engine/trans is in the car but that's
not much of a fix. The little crimped piece of steel that held it tight
into the release arm is probably shot and the reason the thing fell out
in the first place. This thing would be VERY difficult to replace
without pulling the transmission. I replced the pin/metal bit and
both bushings when mine was out and it lasted a few thousand miles. Then....
plink.... damn, lost another one. The best fix is the previously mentioned
bolt/locking nut.
