Now come on,
Talking about this disease, which causes rational people to amass piles
of junky LBC's, does nothing to cure it. In fact I think there is no cure.
TeriAnn tells us that if she had an extra 4 or 5 thou back in '86 she could
have gotten a real nice driving TR-3. Ha Ha. We all know what would happen
if we found ourselves in this position. We'd move up to a more expensive
basket case car.
Imagine for a minute the year is 1986......
Let's say I'd been looking for a nice MGB to be a project that I could work
on one weekend a month and two weeks a year. Then all of a sudden, as if by
magic, $4000 'trickles down' to my greasy hand. Being a good SOL'er even
before I heard of Internet, I go out and buy a '65 E-type that 'just needs
some minor head work, and has a little crack down the side of the sill'.
We're all sick. Sick to the point that we see a basket case car for what
it could be. We're sick because we'd rather pay 1 dollar now and 'install'
2 dollars more of parts down the road, than pay 3 dollars now and drive it
instead. Why? Because we can do it. We don't sell a car that is smoking
a little, we call to find out how much a motor would cost. When a differential
siezes or grinds to a halt we don't call a wrecking yard and ask if they
would come out and pick up our car, we call a wrecking yard and ask if they
have any used differentials in stock. We are the quintessential English
car owners.
