The third and last run the Esprit I had chased in the previous session
had left for home and wasn't on the grid. I was feeling pretty good.
The second session was enough fun for me. I was happy to run with the
novices. I had been getting faster each lap and the car was handling
impeccably. My friend, Marc, in the Vixen had faired even better in
his group, the other novice group. Marc has been racing for a while,
starting with go karts, and has been very successful autocrossing his
Vixen usually winning his C Stock group. TVRs were making a fine
showing for themselves. Fortunately for us, most Lotus folks have a
fondness for TVRs.

Steve,

I was in the other novice group with Marc. I felt I was improving pretty well
until he came up behind me. I know Marc from about 5 years back, but haven't
seen him in the past few years. I knew he wouldn't do any funny buisness behind
me, but it was rather intimidating to see a better driver with a really good
car "all over me". I was more than happy to waive him by on the straight (which
I tried to do on the previous lap, but there wasn't enough time before Big Bend)

Unfortunately for Marc, that was the last lap of the second session. I made sure
he was ahead of me for the third as I was able to get back to concentrating and
was able to pass a few cars, myself. (I'm surprised he wasn't moved into the
intermediate group after session 1) The track was great for the last session
and I had a blast. Like another Esprit owner (me n.a., he -turbo) I found that
using my brakes to full benefit yeilded a soft pedal by the end of the session.
(boiling fluid). I see you can get carbon-kevlar pads custom made from your
core pads from Racer's Wholesale. They feature a middle layer of ceramic to
thermally insulate the carbon pads from your pistons. I think I'll go that
route for future events.

Can't wait till next time. It's great to fully explore your LBC without
incurring the wrath of the local constables. :-)
