You may ahve uncovered a Triumph Dolomite. I have only seen
one in person (actually had a ride in it too) once at the
Greensburg Pa NATC a few years back... I'd be interested in
the beast in another couple years (sigh, isn't that the way
it goes).
You mentioned a huge grille... that might be the bespoke and
controversial "waterfall" grille. There was a more standard
grille offered for those people who though the waterfall too
modern and ugly. If it is indeed a Dolomite, then it is a rare
find on this side of "the pond". The dolomites were upscale
(upmarket) cars that Triumph offered during the depression.
They didn't sell all that well, times being what they were,
were a contributing factor that lead to Triumph motorcycles
and Triumph cars being separate entities if memory serves...
Seems those in charge felt that they would make more money if
they just concentrated on cars and were quite willing lest the
more profitable motorcycle division cease to be. Silly buggers.
This was during Donald Healey's involvment with Triumph, though
I don't think he had much influence on the business aspect of
things....
