Howdy all,

I finally started tearing into the race car project. I've mainly been trying
to
inventory all the spare parts that came with the car, about 10 milk crates
worth
of spares, including a spare 3-main block and crank. This 1600 has a five
speed
mated to it (legal in SCCA G Production) and supposedly has the ultra close
ratios. The car needs a lot of TLC, but the price was right! :)

The engine was successfully turned over by hand last night, with no problems.
Oil pressure was manually built up via spinning the distributor shaft. Thanks
to all for the advise about getting the motor spinning freely again.

Now the question. I tore into the front suspension last night, and found that
one of the legs of the "A" in the upper A-arm has partially rusted through.
Since suspension components of "alternate design and material" are legal, I was
wondering if anyone has fabricated their own upper (and/or) lower A-arms. I'd
like to keep the original spindle for now, so an alternate ball joint would
have
to match the taper in the stock spindle.

I was hoping to keep everything mostly stock to get the car on the track, but
if
I'm going to have to replace a bunch of suspension components anyway, it makes
sense to at least investigate the possibilities. If I don't build my own arms,
I may be begging the list for a bare, clean, straight upper arm.

Happy Roadstering,
Chris Coker
