Two big variations: sanctioning bodies and car type.
There are at least two main vintage organizations (SOVREN on the West coast,
SVRA on the East). Then there's SCCA and other local organizations for "regular"
racing (ie, non-vintage).
The 1500, 1600 and 2000 don't usually run in the same classes, so you see lots
of different classes mentioned.
