Working on my Miata I opened the fuse box to examine if any free
terminals are available for my fog lights. It started to rain a few days
later and I had no wipers. I freaked out and changed the fuses. Still no
wipers. It was then I remembered I disconnected the wiper motor plug.
Oh well!

The "FF" Emergency Flasher switch is not shown on any of the
schematics. Seems as if it was added to meet a DOT requirement
on the '67.5 USA models. [Not sure if Canadian cars got them, either].
It has been a while, but I seem to recall the wiring for
it allowed for normal turn signal operation when the switch was
pushed in. When you pulled it out, it hooked up BOTH right and
left turn lights to a common power source, that ran through the
second flasher.
Mine never worked, but there was no power lead to the second flasher.
Who knows what happened in its previous life, so I added a seperate
fused power supply to the flasher.

The switch was a DPDT (double pole; Double through). Normally the lower
contacts are connected, passing the signal from the turn signal switch
to the light.
When the switch is pulled, it connects the EMERGENCY FLASHER to both
left
and right side lights.
You can buy an "electronic" flash module. I seem to recall the little
fuse brand part: ELF102. Two prong flasher that worked fine for either
turn
signal OR Flasher.
I no longer have the 67 to crawl under and look at the wiring, but this
is pretty much from 10 years back and my faulty memory from when I last
got those flashers working for Shasta in 1991.

P.S. Little humor: Took my Land Cruiser up for it's safety inspection.
I had just finished fixing the horn, so it was functional (combination
horn/wiper/headlight switch on that car). Well everything passed...
except no HEADLIGHTS. Yep, fixed the horn and left the lights
disconnected.
Somedays are like that!
