Parking brake.

Hello All,
        I parked the car in the garage yesterday and when I yanked up on the 
parking brake it went WAY up before it locked the rear wheels.  Usually it 
takes like 3 or 4 clicks (about half way up) for it to lock but this time it 
went clickity click click click click click (cue Boomhauer from King of the 
Hill). Almost like I broke something???  What would cause it to all of a 
sudden do that??
