This is very true. However, you only have to heat it to about 200 degrees to
pop it loose. If not, it is going to take more heat than I would consider
safe. Just don't go near it with a torch!

It would also heat the tank beyond flashpoint, without wraping the area with
heat protection, even
with rinsing tank with water, heat will release gas traped in the pores of
the metal. you can never be to safe with a gas tank. I even scare my self at
times.(no flames meant) (pun is intended).

A set of carbon tongs and an arc welder should work. The tongs will heatthe
fitting without open flame or excessive heat. I've disassembled thingsrusted
beyond belief without breakage. You might try a high temp heat gun. The one I
use for paint stripping goesto 1,000 degrees. Again without open flame. I
don't know if this would getit hot enough as I've never tried it.Best

I have been trying to get the fuel tank offof my car to have it steam cleaned.
I didmanage to get the larger line loose, but thesmaller of the two just will
not budge. It hasbeen soaking in penetrating fluid for days andI am afraid if
I use any more force on thetube wrench it will break the tank fitting,
whichhappened on my parts car.Since I have the fuel lines from my parts car
touse as samples I am considering trying to findfuel hose that will fit these
lines correctly andthen cut about 6" out of each line and use thefuel hose to
connect the tank to the fuel lines.Has this been done, or is there some way
otherthan heat that might free that fitting? On theparts car the metal fuel
tube had fused itself tothe body of the nut.Tom69 2000Portland, Oregon///
