How big a battery do you have?

Let's use your run-of-the-mill home space heater as an example.
They put out a reasonable stream of warm air and consume about
1300 watts to do so. Being purely resistive, we can figure the amperage
to be 1300/120 = 10.8 amps being required from the wall plug.

Move that same heater (properly re-engineered to run on 12 volts)
out to your car. For the same heat output - 1300 watts - we do the
math: 1300/12= oh oh, 108 amps! I don't think you're gonna pull that
sort of current thru the cigarette lighter plug:-)
