There are no differences between a 1600 and a 2000 for steering gear, but
there are differences between early and late steering gear. The early gear
goes to September '67. Then there is gear that goes from October '67 to
SPL-26000, SRL-04000 and then switches to Recirculating Ball type steering
box at SPL-26001, SRL-04001. The steering linkage and idler box just have
the split in '67 between early and late. Check out my website at
http://www.brooks-planck.org/DatsunDiaries/steering_boxes.html for another
article on steering boxes and then http://carfiche.com/311/?2:h:1 for the
parts manual steering gear section.

If you're updating from early gear to later gear you'd have to get new
linkage, an idler box, and a steering box.

Good luck,

I have recently read a bunch about steering boxes and idler boxes and am now
interested in finding out if they are all interchangeable. I have seen some
postings that ask and I too wonder if the 2000 stuff can be adapted to fit
the
earlier 1600 stuff.

Thanks

Ivin
