Despite what the parts book says, all steering boxes and idlers prior to the
introduction of the recirculating ball box in mid 69 are interchangeable. I
have a 66 box and a 68 box and they are identical for all practical
purposes. What did change was the introduction of the collapsible column.
Why they say they aren't interchangeable I don't know.

The later boxes and idlers are different and need modifications to the frame
to fit, as well as a different lower column or a custom Borgeson u-joint. I
have that setup too.

The tie rods and other assorted linkages are the same for all cars despite
the differences in the boxes.
