Basic U-20 questoin

Real basic.
The firing order for a u-20 is 1-3-4-2.

Is the #1 cylinder the front or rear cylinder?  (Closer to the radiator or
the firewall)  I can't find this seemingly basic info in any of my manuals.
I guess the question is so basic it may not need to be mentioned.

And for the age question- 32
