James,

Since this is the first time you have worked on this car you probably have
no idea what the previous owner did to it. If the wiring harness is for a
2L can, and, as you state, the engine is a 1600, the wire you are looking
for may be on the opposite side of the engine compartment. Look between
the disttributor connections and the voltage regulator. If you find the
wire there, all you need to do is extend it across the front, top of the
radiator and connect it to the sender.
