Oh yeah! My next-door neighbot just - and I mean just last week, finished
restoring a MG Midget for this father-in-law. What a beautiful car! BUT, a MG
nonetheless. It runs like cr**, leaks aniti-freeze and he has decided to
replace the carburetor already - after three rebuilds! (he's going to put a
Weber on it). Speaking or air-bubbles, the thermostat is well above the siphon
for the overflow tank/radiator cap(yes, there's a recall from 1970 for it), but
it still leaks and there's always an air bubble he has to get out before it
cools right. He's going to tap the thermostat housing and do something there -
bleeder or overflow tube.

All-in-all, a very cute car but not designed very well - AT ALL!

It isn't.

Let me tell you that the MGB is not as easy to work on as a Datsun and the
engineering in many respects leaves much to be desired.

Almost everything is a 2 man operation (guaranteed employment for the
Brits?) including timing the damn engine as they put the timing marks on the
very bottom of the engine, even the installation of the gas pedal is a 2 man
operation unless you use ingenuity to solve the problem.

They ran the hard clutch line ABOVE the master and we all know about fluid
seeking its own level so when you replace it you have to get that air bubble
out which is almost impossible to do w/o the right equipment. I redesigned
all the routing of the hydraulic lines to make it as God intended, not the
Brit way.

Because of the design of the 'pedal box' it's almost impossible to replace
the bottom bolt on the clutch master so I helicoiled the master so no nut is
required.

One more thing - almost none of the parts available fit as delivered -
working w/Datsuns spoiled me as when I order something I know it fits. They
couldn't even get the motor mounts designed correctly and I had to modify
them too and one was black and the other grey. Grey?

I thought you guys would enjoy the above rant.
