Speaking of "Advance", I'd start there. Check your intial timing. Check 
operation of your vacuum advance. Get your timing light and vacuum pump out 
first. I just had a car over with this very problem. His vacuum advance plate 
was siezed up. Once a while back there was another car, same issues. Dizzy was 
set to too retarded.

(that just don't sound right.. "Too retarded"! How about not advanced enough... 
What was it? a bronze age dizzy?)
