There is a chemical test for blown head gaskets. It is a big syringe and
some blue fluid. You suck air from the radiator cap and if it turns from blue
to
yellow you have combustion products in the cooling system. I got mine at a
NAPA store. It works great.

220 and as I shut it down the temperature spiked, Had good radiator flow and
the water was definitely hot! Of course, I suspect a head gasket. No oil in
water or vice versa; and surprisingly the compression in all cylinders is
174 to 177 lb. I really hat to pull the head (it has studs and 'tain't
easy) and I'm looking for another test to confirm the inevitable. Any
suggestions??
