 "Hi,
All of a sudden I am experiencing electrical problems in my '68 2000.
With the lights on, and I push on the brakes the drivers side brake light
goes out. The passenger side brake light works fine. Also, the fuel guage
is drifting up and down and drops to empty when I am excellerating. The
temp guage isn't working either. All of these problems just occured
recently and at the same time. Any advice on what I should troubleshoot?

Thanks,
David"

Hi David,
The lack of brake light, assuming the globe is OK, is probably due to a
faulty earth.
There should be a chassis earth at the back LHS of the car: check it and the
tail lamp wiring for broken/dirty contacts.
When you mention the fuel/temp gauges, I immediately think of the voltage
stabilizer in the dash panel.
You don't specify the year of your car but I think from the 311 onwards a
stabilizer was used.
This is a bi-metallic doohickey (technical term) which feeds a lower stable
voltage to these instruments, 8V I think.
When it loses the plot, the two gauges wander off and do strange things.
I don't think the brake light is related to the stabilizer but they don't
call it electrickery for nothing!
A new stabilizer is the go unless you feel like breaking the old one open to
see what makes it tick.
