27 years this question has been fussed over...
Triumph Register of America recognizes the frames were painted body
color in some instances.... Well the show chassis for an example. I'm
sure were not repainted after being dolled up. And I'm sure they weren't
scrapped either... People who worked near the factory have told of
frames sitting out barren and rusty before going into assymbly/ paint..
.Black is the color I've always seen. But arguments from some pretty
formidable enthusiast will tell you different. I still would like to see
one to rule out the overspray philosopy . My attitude always tended
towards the efficency of production, and you use what's in the gun.
Given the Paint both stories I read in this circle in the past month.
You might as well paint something while your purging the system.
Be me I'd look at my frame and paint it what it was in the beginning
.Be that.... you want it what it was...
.I have to be honest the only arguments for body color on frames has
been in defense of later cars.
The rules are for all.
Two of the kahunas that inputed to the book swore their frames were
body colors. There are others that have reported the same. I never saw
one myself that wasn't overspray... But for the overall this is the
rule...Body color acceptable ..... should read in addition "on later
cars" in my humble opinion..But where do you draw the line....
By the way I painted the frame on TS 774 L "Olive Yellow" just to
tout the rule..... It was Black....My real justification was it would
give some people the chance to see what the color looked like.
