FOT

In less than 12 hours, I received the following offerings:

(KH, take this list to your favorite British Mechanic Person...all pretty
routine stuff and a good time to check condition of all u-joints as well)

Front Pulley ..... Loose
Tail shaft mount ..... Deteriorated
Tailshaft counter weight ... Missing
Driveshaft ..... Out of balance
Driveshaft ..... Out of phase
Exhaust system ...conflicted with chassis

#Front pulley loose...certainly worth checking...had this happen and it
galled the big screw and was a real problem to remove. Racing conditions.

#Tailshaft mount...been there...done that especially with OD at racing
speeds. Odd sensation when driveshaft yoke slide over to your lap and beats
on the plastic tunnel cover at Canada Corner. Worth replacing as a
maintenance measure.

#Tailshaft counter weight...I had one floating around inventory, but never
used them. Might be worth hanging one on if it is not in place.

#Driveshaft balance...worth doing as process of elimination.

#Driveshaft phasing...my manual does not say, but shows pictorially...the
yokes are in alignment....easy to check and change if necessary.

#Exhaust system interference....this might be promising....I remember a
satisfying exhaust harmonic from my TR4A at about 2800 RPM that might
translate into a nasty vibration on chassis frame.

I notice no suggestion of flywheel or engine or transmission component
imbalance...but see this as unlikely and shudder to think of it as I like the
aforementioned uncomplicated offerings.

One more important thing....Paul Richardson suggested the following:

"Hi Joe

That tranny vibration on the TR4A sounds like osmotomical snaggle pin
ejaculation - I should sell the car.

Paul"

I mentioned to Paul that this Red TR4A will be in UK next month and it would
be presented to him for close examination. I told him to keep mouth tightly
closed in the event the snaggle pin got excited and was "premature".......

Sidebar: Jim Hill mentions that he is getting vibration at racing speeds
(TR6) at 100 MPH and is in search of a solution.

Thanks all,

Joe
