We have had a similar problem. In FP SCCA we have more latitude, but....
Our soulution was to convert to the TR7 box. It has the same ratios as the
GT6 and the same case (single rail version). We used the GT6 bell housing
and had an adapter spacer made for the longer TR7 input shaft. Since the
GT7 case is outwardly identical to the GT6 this might work for you as well.
We also needed to fasion a different transmission mount.
