Reading the recent story on the list about the Morgan front wheel parting
company with the car reminds me of a story concerning Peter Bolton the
Triumph works Le Mans driver.
In the early fifties Peter was a member of a three car works Morgan team
entered in the Monte Carlo rally. The three Morgans had only got about
three hours into Northern France when the cars suffered front hub failure
and a front wheel fell of all three in roughly the same area of France.
Peter and his navigator managed to find a French pub nearby and later the
other Morgan drivers and navigators - by fair means and foul, met up with
Peter at the same pub. Lots of French ale was tasted and a discussion took
place about the inevitable message that had to be sent to the Morgan
company to tell them the bad news.
More ale was consumed and eventually a telegram was sent to Henry Morgan
that read:-
"Sorry Henry but all three cars have reverted to type"
