andy, the comp prep manual, 4th edition 1970, supplement #1 by mike cook, lists
only the gt6 standard ratios as alternate for the spit. since this was
published
in 1970 and should have applied for the '71 on season(s). i don't know wh it is
not in the pcs. the comp prep book for the gt6 mkl and the tr2000 do not list
an
alternate ratio. i also checked the competition data sheets. if you haven't
seen these, they were published by the comp dept in leonia and list all the comp
parts for teh various models. ie ther is a spit data sheet, tr3-4a, gt6, mgb,
etc. i do have original copies of these ($1 ea plus postage). the gt6 c/r
gearset was made of unobtanium. i know grp 44 had a set but by the time i got
the car (gt6 mkIII) the interim owner had trashed hat gearset and replaced it
with the stock gt6 components. i never saw a set in person. with htat, i defer
to messrs cook and kastner. ted
