As I read the SCCA rules, body modifications were not allowed. "hood
blocks" to open the rear edge of the "bonnet" for additional ventilation
were specifically not allowed. I am reasonably certain the hood louvers
would fall under the classification of " body modifications. Kas is
probably a better authority on this than I am. I do know that in 1970, at
Laguna Seca, the Lotus Super 7 that I was working on at the time was
excluded from a "Regional " event beause we cut about 3/4 of an inch off of
the inner lip edge of the rear fenders because the tires we were unning at
the time, Formula Ford Firestone front tires (not even slicks), were rubbing
and making tire smoke which the officials did not like. The reason for the
exclusion was "body modifications".
