Grade eight bolts are supposedly fairly weak as bolts go (a disappointment
to a guy with a huge collection of them). According to Carroll Smith's
fastener book they are unmitigated junk. I just bought some flywheel bolts
from ARP, and they certainly look like the real thing (and cost like it
too).

stud search for my aluminum hubs some time ago.  Three inches seemed to be

the limit.

I assume that grade 8 bolts have just as good if not better strength 
characteristics as any wheel stud.  I saw an ex-Group 44 car at Auto Tech
in 
Pittsburgh.  This car had bigger than 1/2" studs (and longer than 3") in
the 
wheel hubs.
