A rev limiter? Seriously, it's got to be ignition since it occurs in any
gear and is therefore not load related. A stuck advance mechanism, a
really bad coil.

Hey group, a friend of mine is looking at a TR-8, carbs not fuel injected.
When he took it out for a test drive it would not go above 2000 rpm. No
miss
or sputter or bog down. It just would not go above 2 grand in any gear.
Any
suggestions as to what he might look for?
