I remember that some of the formula 1 engines had talcum powder used to
help seat the rings.

I once told a friend with a mosquito killing Mini 1275 S about BonAmi.  When 
he could not find it, he used liquid cleanser figuring that it was "just as 
good"!!

I have had Many misleading leakdown tests, FWIW
