If you belonged to a Triumph club... sold your Triumph and started showing up
to the meetings in a Nissan 300SX.... what would you expect?
There is a weird social dynamic that happens in clubs and organizations when
one places himself on the outskirts of the bell curve...
There's a guy in my local club that has an american V8 under the hood of his
TR 4A... And it sickens me to see the disrespect he gets for it... even
though he's probably one the most active and participating members of the club.
The reality is... you have to decide what's important to you and why you're in
the hobby and all. If it matters to you how you're treated at club
events or even here in the newsgroups, then consider sticking to Triumphs and
keep it relatively stock if you can't afford your dream Triumph engine.
If you really just want more bang for the buck and don't care what anyone
thinks, do what's affordable. (Of course, you undoubtedly already understand
the affects on re-sale value of the vehicle, if that is concern.)
The bottom line is, if you do the latter, don't be surprised if you get some
snobbish reaction from the purists and even the regulars.
Personally... I hate that. I say, it's your car, do as you wish. People
should have fun. Unfortunately, many people are not so big. If you stray,
so may many others... from you.
This is just my observation... of watching the interaction between car club
members and the such.
