center cap thrust woes

Amici,
In my continuing quest to make my life harder, and not waste any orphaned TR
parts, I chose to use a spare TR3 block that was donated to my cause without
bearing caps to build my new TR4 engine. I took my spare main bearing caps
that I somehow collected to the only machine shop in town that line hones and
they picked out a suitable trio of caps and line honed the assembly.
Unfortunately I didn't specify that they should watch out for the thrust
surfaces and they do not line up. My new machinist suggests that the center
cap is held in by clamping force and by being pulled into place. He thinks
that with a slight increase in the size of the bolt holes that he can get the
mess aligned. If need be he suggested that he could drill into the cap/block
edge and pin the cap in place if need be. The question is, is that needed? Is
this a good idea at all, or should I go back to the line bore shop and tell
them to fix it?
