Marty,

I've had a seemingly long history of different distributors ("dizzie" in Oz
slang) on the TR6.

Rags came with stock Lucas with a lot of wear in the shaft bearings. A
Pertronix *cured* all associated problems (see my write-up at
http://triumph.hottr6.com/tr6dyno.html). Then went to a Mallory dual-point
(NLA) because I had to ditch the vacuum advance (Webers). Worked fine, but
I never felt it worked any better than the Lucas with Pertronix. At the
same time, I fought with intermittent problems with my Pantera for 2 years
before finally diagnosed it as the Mallory dual point I had on the
Cleveland. Needess to say, I pulled both Mallorys off the cars and crushed
the dizzie from the Cleveland in a fit of disgust. Man, did that feel good.
Stuffed a billet MSD dizzie in the Cleveland and life was terrific. The
TR6 Mallory sits in a box until I feel compelled to do something with it.
Replaced it with a Racetorations tolaranced Lucas dizzie (with Pertronix)
and life is even better.

Project for the future would be to mill a new shaft for a billet MSD for
straight-six Chebys and slant-sixes and fit that to the TR6. I love MSD!

I know my experience is singular, and may be unfair to Mallory, but once
bitten, twice shy. I have used 6AL boxes in both TR6 and Pantera and with
the latest combinations, I have never cranked the motors for more than 1
second before the motors fire (unless the float bowls were empty). It
always seems that I have only to touch the start switch and the motors fire
instantly and idle happily.

Cheers,

Shane Ingate, getting ready to light the Guzzi fires after 10 years, in
Maryland
