Hi,

As many folks on this list know, I like to race TR6's in SCCA Solo 2. Last
night in between chucking logs into the wood stove to keep warm, I was
reading the latest SCCA "Sports Car" section called "Fast Track" where
rules changes and clarifications are presented.

If you follow Solo 2 at all, you probably know that SCCA has been in the
process of re-writing the Prepared class rules to minimize the "impact" of
progressing from the "street prepared" classes to "prepared". Among the
perceived issues getting in the way of folks progressing from SP to P is
the "cost" of meeting wheel size regs. The new rules being adopted for
2005 eliminate many of the rule size issues. Kool.

BUT, the neat thing for me as TR6 driver is that the new weights within
most of the Prepared classes are based on displacement. Because the TR6 is
only 2.5 liters, this "fixes" a "problem"/loophole in the previous
Prepared specs that allowed the early 911 Porsches to run 3.2 liter motors
and only weigh 2200 pounds (where the TR6 was limited to a .040 overbore
an weigh 2000 pounds). Geez, do you think a 3.2 liter double overhead cam
motor can make a tad more power than a 2.5 liter motor with overhead
valves???

At any rate, the new rule allows a .040 overbored TR6 to weigh in at a
svelte 1924 pounds. I think this is a good thing. In fact I think it's a
great thing. The hardest thing will be trying to figure out how to get rid
of the 100 pounds or so... I'm thinking fiberglass boot and bonnet.

So - I got an early xmas present. The 3.2 liter 911's get to add about 175
pounds under the new rules. Key-yool.

Of course we still have compete against some of the awesome E36 and E46
BMW's, but they will def. be tipping the scales at the high end the max.
class weight - 2500 pounds.

Oh - and a few of the internal motor restrictions are gonzo - so you can
run your bored/stroked TR6 in FP now with the weight adjusted to the
displacement... and by 2007 all induction restrictions are gone, so you
can run aftermarket fuel injection or unrestricted Webers... that means we
can (theoretically) get up to the 220 HP or so range. Awesome.

Happy Holidays!
