Sorry about the assumption. Peyote is a special, built in 1959 by a guy
named Bill Ames and raced pretty much continuously ever since. It's a TR3 in
drag--with a TR3 frame and running gear and a home built aluminum body that
was originally made from surplus road sign aluminum. It's actually called
Peyote Mk II, MKI being the same car with a different (and substantially
uglier) body. It was restored in the late 80's by a guy (Pat Starr) who, as
a kid, hung around while it was being built.

It almost has two frames--with a standard TR3 frame as the base and a tube
secondary frame/roll cage. So it's not particularly light (1550#) and it has
a rather lightly breathed on motor, though it's got a steel crank,
Carillos, and big forged pistons (I think I have 89s in right now, but they
might be 87.5mm) but it's fast as hell, routinely beats single-seater
Porsches, Ferraris, Maseratis and Loti. I don't know why. Handles really
great.
