There are lots of different setups available ... in many cases it can be
changed just by swapping out the electronic module inside the alternator.
So it would probably be best to contact the people who sold you the
alternator, and get the information from them as to what module is installed
and how it should be wired.

But most commonly (AFAIK), "P" is an AC output from the alternator that the
ECU can use to determine alternator RPM.  If so, you should be able to
safely leave it disconnected.
