It would be impossible to restore one to even very good condition for much
less, though that's usually the seller's problem, not the buyer's.
eBay is not always rational, you can sell something useful and valuable there
and not get much, or something happens to hit the right folks who really want
that thing and it goes for silly money. For example, I recently sold three
motorcycle models on eBay. I bought them about ten years ago, and they were
expensive l then ($150 each), because they were cast kits that required a lot
of time and expertise to build. For example, the cylinders were built by
stacking fin disks. The wheels looked nearly impossible to build to me. I
never touched them other than looking at the minimal directions and the
primitive parts. If I put them in a garage sale I'd be lucky to find a buyer
for ten bucks. On eBay they fetched about $500 each. People who knew what they
were bid against each other. The guy that got two of them was ecstatic about
the two he got and devastated that he got outbid at the last second for the
third. He said he would have paid whatever it took.
He sent me wooden boxes with foam pads to ship the models in. It would have
been completely impossible without a lot of advertising to reach that guy.
