I did the same thing with a gearbox I got from Ted.  The outer 0.050" or so
of the shaft is case hardened and it took a long time with very small cuts
to remove it.  Once through however, the shaft is fairly soft, so it cuts
easily.

Scott,
When I converted the GT6 gearox from the body I sold you, that is
exactlywhat I did.  Cutting the input shatf and machining the bit that goes
into the pilot bushing was all that was necessary.  You will have to find a
clutch disk withthe proper splines but Ted Schumacher can help there.
