  Marty, do you use an in-line resistor in both cars? Although the
condensers should be rated for way more than 12 volts.I think the rating is
.28 mfd at 600 volts.
  Is there a small braided ground wire in the distributor between the
breaker plate and the dist body? Or the engine and chassis ground cable?
Kind of grasping at straws here, but you know how British cars and grounds
are.
  I've seem problems with loose condenser mounting screws back in the Dark
Ages.
  As far as Mallory being better than another brand, with todays outsourcing
and quality control (or lack of), who knows. I use Standard brand parts on
my old tractors and they seem fine. And Pertronix on my TR6.
